Kasper Schmeichel has been nominated for Fifa’s The Best goalkeeper award.
The Leicester City and Denmark goalkeeper has been named in a three-man shortlist alongside Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid and Belgium) and Hugo Llloris (Tottenham and France) after the nominations were announced for The Best Fifa Football Awards.
Schmeichel’s nomination follows a hugely impressive World Cup, where the Dane saved 91 per cent of shots faced during the tournament, the most of anyone who played more than one game in Russia.
He also saved three penalties in the last-16 tie against Croatia, but his heroics were not enough to avoid Denmark being eliminated in a shoot-out.
Schmeichel’s clean sheet in the opening game group against Peru also set a new Denmark record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.
Courtois won the Golden Glove in Russia for his performances with Belgium, keeping two clean sheets against England on their way to a third-placed finish.
Meanwhile, Lloris captained France to World Cup glory in Russia and kept four clean sheets on the way to the final.
